Not long after marrying the woman of my dreams it quickly became apparent how much she suffered each month with intense pain and cramping. Previously she was diagnosed with severe primary dysmenorrhea (pain associated with menstruation), so being a medical device engineer I felt there must be someway I could help. I began a deep dive into the medical literature and was saddened to learn how little was being done to help women escape from this pain. It was hard not to feel a sense despair without a definitive way to help.    

However, it became clear how beneficial topical application of heat was in relieving this kind of pain both from the science/biochemistry and from the real-life experience of Helen and so many other women. So, I set out to design the best possible way to apply the right kind of heat exactly where it was needed. It wasn’t easy, but three years and dozens of prototypes later we had a design that fit incredibly well and could reach the temperatures needed for relief. We realized early on we needed to share this broadly and help as many women as possible.
